During my internship at Decos, I fully redesigned and modernized the Smartsite manager interface. The project started with improving WCAG compliance and grew into a fundamental redesign: outdated techniques were replaced with modern web standards, the interface received a new look with dark mode, and the overall user experience improved considerably. I also added features such as filter search, an AI text rewriting tool and quality improvements based on user feedback.
Features
- A fully redesigned manager interface with modern, consistent styling
- Significantly improved WCAG compliance: color contrast, font sizes and focus indicators
- Dark mode — less eye strain during extended use
- A responsive interface adapting to different screen sizes
- Redesigned filters with search functionality for faster navigation
- Quality improvements to content structure, clickable widgets and notification management
- AI functionality for rewriting text in multiple languages
Challenges
- Working with a severely outdated enterprise codebase without documentation
- Applying WCAG compliance to dynamically generated legacy components
- Modernizing icons and styling without existing design systems
Lessons learned
- Improving accessibility step by step in a legacy product
- Enterprise .NET architecture and legacy refactoring
- Working with an agile team and incorporating user feedback into the design
